ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
Cividale sits in the middle of one of Italy’s best white-wine hills, and the town’s tables make the most of it: Natisone trout, frico with Montasio cheese, and above all the gubana — the spiral pastry of nuts, raisins, citrus and grappa that is the Natisone valleys’ signature, traditionally served with a glass of the local Verduzzo. Cantine along the ridge roads pour Ribolla Gialla in its still and sparkling forms, and the osmize farm taverns open their doors in season.
WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE
What you’ll experience
You spend an afternoon between the square’s pasticcerie and one or two ridge-road cantine — a tasting of Friulano and Schioppettino with the producer, a slab of gubana with coffee in town, and dinner of trout and frico in a trattoria under the arcades before the lamplit walk to the bridge.
