ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Banjska stena is the mountain’s postcard and its truth: from the wooden platform the Drina canyon opens below — the river a kilometre down, green as glass, Perućac lake holding the light. The view runs from Serbia into Bosnia; the silence is the thing people remember.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
The viewpoint was the Yugoslavia-era excursion’s crown; the road from Perućac (built for the 1966 dam) opened it to the cars. It remains the park’s most visited point — and at dawn, its emptiest.
WHAT TO SEE
What to see here
The canyon panorama from the wooden platform.
Perućac lake from above — the dam and the emerald water.
The viewpoint walk (10 minutes) through the old beech.
GOOD TO KNOW
Facts & Curiosities
The Drina canyon below is among the deepest river canyons in Europe — up to 1,000 m from the viewpoint.
Perućac lake (1966) is a hydro dam’s reservoir — the “emerald” is the mountain water’s calcium.
The platform looks into both Serbia and Republika Srpska — the Drina is the border here.
Early morning fog in the canyon is the photographers’ prize — plan for 8 a.m.
