ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Sirogojno keeps the Zlatibor village as it was: an open-air museum of original 19th-century log houses moved here from across the plateau — the school, the church, the smithy, the winter kitchen — arranged as a living hamlet. The museum’s knitwear workshop made Sirogojno famous twice: the hand-knitted “Sirogojno style” was exported worldwide in the 1980s and is still sold at the gate.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
The museum opened in 1980 around the village church of Sts Peter and Paul (1764); the houses were collected from across Zlatibor by the ethnologist Dobrila Vlahović. The knitting cooperative — started the same decade to employ village women — became the “Sirogojno style” brand, the most successful craft enterprise of socialist Yugoslavia.
