Sunrise & sunset watching from the Avala meadows

ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE

Avala’s geometry makes it a natural observatory: the northern slopes look down on the whole capital and its two rivers, while the southern meadows run to the blue ridges of Šumadija. Belgraders come at both ends of the day — sunrise over the mist-filled city from the tower side, sunset over the ridges from the picnic meadows — and the ritual is old enough to have its own grammar: blankets, wine, the city lights coming on below.
