ABOUT THE DESTINATION
Belgrade is the capital of Serbia, built on the ridge above the confluence of the Sava and the Danube around the Kalemegdan Fortress. Its layers — Roman, Ottoman, Habsburg, Yugoslav and modern — show in a city of boulevards, river terraces, Skadarlija’s bohemian quarter, the imposing Church of Saint Sava and one of Europe’s largest nightlife scenes. It is both the country’s practical gateway and its cultural engine.
