ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
Twenty minutes above the town the country changes completely: the Natisone valleys cut north into the Julian margin, Slovene-speaking, thinly settled, laced with marked trails along ravines and ridges, and crowned by the sanctuary of Castelmonte with its view across two countries. Mountain bikers take the old military roads; hikers link villages through chestnut woods; and every route comes home to Cividale for the evening.
WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE
What you’ll experience
You follow signed trails from the valley villages along the torrent’s ravines, climb through chestnut woods to Castelmonte for the Madonna and the panorama, and descend to a border-village osteria where the menu is in two languages and the soup is barley and smoked pork. Cyclists take the gravel military roads between ridges.
