ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE

Cividale rewards the unhurried morning: coffee on Piazza del Duomo under the Palladio palace, the detour through an anonymous door into the rock-carved Celtic Hypogeum, the riverside path under the Devil’s Bridge where the gorge boils, and the climb back through the medieval lanes of Borgo Brossana to the Duomo’s portal of saints. Everything is within a kilometre.

WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE

What you’ll experience

You start on the main square with the cathedral’s façade and the archæological palace around you, descend to the Hypogeum’s carved masks (their purpose still debated — Celtic tombs? a Roman jail?), and drop further to the gorge path. The bridge view finishes the circuit; in summer you can watch kayakers train in the current below.
