ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE

Established in 2001 by guidebook author Hilary Whitton Paipeti, the Corfu Trail crosses the whole island where walkers spend no more than an hour in any one landscape — juniper dunes in the south, the olive heartland, the karst plateau under Pantokrator, the cliff paths of the northwest. Waymarking is adequate but inconsistent; download a GPX track. Best in April–June and September–October.

Corfu has three organised campsites, all ACSI-inspected: Camping Paleokastritsa in the olive groves of the west coast (48 pitches, pool, late May–end October), Karda Beach at Dassia on the east coast (130 pitches, mid-April–mid-October) and Dionysus Camping Village at Dafnila (107 pitches, 40 cabins, April–October — the longest season). Wild camping is illegal in Greece.
