ABOUT THE DESTINATION
L'Aquila is the capital of Abruzzo, a 13th-century planned city founded by the Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II's son, set in a basin beneath the Gran Sasso massif. Its Spanish Castle, the Basilica of Santa Maria di Collemaggio and the Fountain of the 99 Spouts anchor a mountain city that remains the gateway to Abruzzo's national parks.
