ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
Palmanova is built for cycling twice over: the fortress ring itself carries the signed “Bastioni by bike” circuits on flat grass-and-gravel ramparts with the moats below, and the town sits directly on the Alpe Adria cycle route — the long-distance line from Salzburg to Grado that threads through Friuli’s UNESCO sites. Aquileia’s Roman ruins are a half-hour ride across the plain, Grado’s beaches an hour, and the whole network connects at the star’s gates.
WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE
What you’ll experience
You ride out of a gate onto the ramparts, circle the star through moat-side meadows with the walls always on one side, and drop back into town for coffee on Piazza Grande. Longer rides follow the Alpe Adria signage to Aquileia’s basilica or toward the Isonzo — dead-flat, low-traffic country roads the whole way.
