Colosseum
The vast amphitheatre begun by Vespasian around AD 70 and opened in AD 80 with a hundred days of games, holding up to 50,000 spectators for gladiatorial combat and staged hunts. The largest amphitheatre ever built, it is the symbol of ancient Rome and the heart of the UNESCO-listed historic centre.
