ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
The old town of Stolac is the walkable heart of a visit, the layered medieval, Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian core that grew at the foot of Vidoški grad on the Bregava. A slow walk through it takes in the Čaršija mosque, reconstructed after wartime destruction, the sahat-kula clock tower, the old stone houses of the čaršija and the Begovina, the fortified residential complex of the local begovi families. The walk is a way to read the town at ground level and to see the reconstruction that followed the 1990s conflict as part of the story the quarter now tells. The lanes are uneven stone in places, and the walk covers several buildings rather than a single point, so no single location is given here.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Good to know before you go
A gentle but uneven walk on the stone lanes of the old town. The mosque is an active place of worship — dress modestly and avoid prayer times. Not every building is open to visitors, so confirm access to specific structures locally. The walk covers several buildings rather than a single point, and it pairs naturally with the riverside walk and the fortress climb.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters
The old town is the lived core of Stolac and the place where its medieval, Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian layers meet. For a visitor the walk is the connective tissue of a visit, between the Radimlja stop, the riverside rest and the fortress climb.
