ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
The 1902 synagogue of Subotica, by the same Komor and Jakab, abandoned the historicist styles for pure Hungarian Secession: a hipped dome of clay-clad steel, walls of patterned faience, a gallery of wrought-iron peacocks. The community that built it perished in 1944; after decades of decay the building was restored (2018) and now serves as a concert venue — one of Europe’s great acoustic and architectural experiences.
