ABOUT THE DESTINATION
Berat is one of Albania’s two UNESCO World Heritage towns, famous for the white Ottoman houses of the Mangalem quarter stacked tier upon tier above the Osum river — the “town of a thousand windows”. Its hilltop castle is still a living neighbourhood of churches and mosques, the Onufri museum holds the country’s finest icon collection, and the Gorica bridge links the two historic banks.
