ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION

The Jenner is the Königssee’s designated viewing platform: its cable car lifts walkers and skiers from the lake’s shore to a mid-station above the treeline and a summit terrace whose panorama assembles the park in one look — the lake’s full fjord length below, the Watzmann’s east face opposite, the Steinernes Meer’s karst plateau east and the Hochkalter west. The mid-station’s paths make the famous family panorama walk; the summit serves the paragliders who launch over the lake; and the ridge trails run north to the Schneibsteinhaus for the park’s high walkers. In winter the mountain flips to a compact ski area whose runs face the same view — the region’s favourite locals’ hill, and the photographers’ sunset chairlift.

FOOD & DRINK

Where to eat nearby

01

Berchtesgaden eats the Bavarian alpine canon — Weißwurst mornings, Brettljause boards, pork and knödel, and the region’s own obsession: fresh river trout and the Königssee’s legendary Reinanke (alpine char), served grilled or smoked wherever the lake’s boats land.

02

On the Königssee itself, the choices are the point: the St. Bartholomä inn serves its fish and Bavarian cards at the pilgrimage church’s jetty (cash, seasonal hours), and the Saletalm at the lake’s far end covers the Obersee walkers — eating here is half the excursion.

03

Berchtesgaden town holds the valley’s full range: historic inns and the Hofbräuhaus-equivalent Gasthäuser around the old market, the Aadla fine-dining room, and the pedestrian zone’s cafés and bakeries. The Alm- und Bergfilm festival season fills the tables in autumn.

04

Ramsau’s lane carries the painted church’s taverns and the Hintersee’s lakeside inn; the Jenner mid-station and summit restaurants do the panorama lunch; and the Obersalzberg’s hotels (the InterContinental’s terrace above all) serve the Eagle’s Nest view with dinner. Camping kitchens are well served by the town’s markets; Camping Grafenlehen and the Allweglehen pitches put national-park trails at the tent flap.

HOTELS & STAYS

Where to stay nearby

01

Berchtesgaden town is the practical base: station, buses and old town within walking distance, the full price range, and the ski-bus and lake-bus loops at the door — right for first visits and public-transport travellers.

02

Ramsau bei Berchtesgaden, 10 minutes south, is the postcard stay: the painted St. Sebastian church, the Zauberwald’s edge, farm stays and the Hintersee’s quiet — the choice for walkers who want trails from the door.

03

The Königssee shore (Königssee village and the Jennerbahn base) puts the lake at the doorstep for early boats; the Obersalzberg hotels trade the Eagle’s-Nest-height views and direct Dokumentation access for a drive to everything else.

04

Camping: Camping Grafenlehen (4-star, at the Königssee valley’s entrance under the Jenner, national-park partner site) and the Allweglehen campsite and motorhome park (below the Obersalzberg, panoramic pitches, year-round service) are the region’s verified grounds — both put the RVO bus lines within minutes and the trails within walking distance.
