ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Breuil-Cervinia is a resort built to plan in the 1930s on the pastures of the old Breuil hamlet, and its one long spine — Via Guido Rey — carries the whole town: ski hire, cafés, the landmark hotels, and at the far end the church dedicated to the Aosta battalion of the Alpine troops. In the centre, the Mountain Hut Luigi Amedeo di Savoia — the original 1892 hut from the Theodul glacier, rebuilt log by log in town — houses the museum of alpinism: the race of 1865 between Carrel and Whymper, the golden age of the guides of Valtournenche, and the building of the Plateau Rosà cableway, the engineering sensation of its day.
