ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Mon Repos is a British-era neoclassical villa (1831) in a park on the Kanoni peninsula, built over the heart of ancient Corcyra. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, was born here in 1921 when his family held the Greek throne. Today the villa is a museum — its rooms cover the estate’s history and the archaeology of Palaiopolis, where the 6th-century-BC Temple of Artemis stood; its famous Gorgon pediment, among the oldest large-scale pediment sculptures in Greece, is in the Archaeological Museum in town. The park’s lawns, Roman baths ruins and the sea-edge Kardaki spring make it the old town’s green escape.
