ABOUT THE DESTINATION
Gospić is the largest town in the Lika region, a highland settlement on the edge of the Velebit mountains and the practical gateway to the Lika interior, the Gacka river and the northern approaches to the Velebit Nature Park. It is a quiet base for hiking, fly-fishing and exploring the karst highlands between the coast and Plitvice.

HISTORY & CULTURE
The Story Behind the Place
Gospić developed as a small military-frontier town under the Habsburgs in the Lika highlands, and it remained the administrative centre of the region through Yugoslav and independent Croatia. It is closely associated with the inventor Nikola Tesla, who was born in the nearby village of Smiljan.
