Boat to Our Lady of the Rocks
A short boat crossing from the Perast waterfront to the man-made island church and its museum — the essential Perast experience, conditional on a licensed operator and the day.

Cities & Culture
A baroque stone town of palaces and two island churches on the bay.
Perast is a quiet baroque town on the Bay of Kotor, a single stone waterfront of 16th- and 17th-century palaces and churches facing two tiny islands — the natural Sveti Đorđe and the man-made Our Lady of the Rocks. Once the home of the Venetian fleet’s most skilled sailors, it is now the bay’s most photographed view.

HISTORY & CULTURE
Perast grew under Venetian rule as a garrison and naval town whose sailors served the Venetian fleet across the Adriatic. At its 18th-century peak it had no fields and little farmland but a fleet, a naval school and a string of baroque palaces. The two islands off its shore — the natural Sveti Đorđe and the man-made Our Lady of the Rocks — are the town’s defining landmarks.
TOP THINGS TO DO
TOP ATTRACTIONS
FOOD & DRINK
Waterfront seafood and Montenegrin coastal cooking — konobas along the Perast promenade serving bay fish and local dishes, with seasonal opening and variable reservation needs
Cafés, bakeries and light-lunch options around the central waterfront — quick stops for coffee, pastries and a light meal between the museums and churches
Slower evening dining in Perast or nearby bay settlements — a smaller choice than the larger resorts, so consider nearby Risan or Kotor when local options are limited or full
HOTELS & STAYS
Heritage hotels in restored waterfront buildings — accommodation in the historic palaces and stone houses along the Perast promenade
Guesthouses and apartments within Perast — smaller, locally run rooms and self-catering stays in and around the old town
Nearby Kotor- or Risan-area accommodation — a broader choice of hotels, guesthouses and transport options a short drive along the bay
ITINERARIES
PLAN YOUR VISIT
Perast is reached along the Bay of Kotor road that follows the shore of the inner bay. Traffic management and access restrictions can change, particularly in the high season, so drivers should use lawful marked parking and never stop on bends, narrow road sections or private property. Buses, taxis and boat connections serve the area but must be verified for the day — services are seasonal and do not assume fixed schedules.
Central Perast is compact and mainly explored on foot along the single waterfront promenade and the short upper lanes. There is no need for a vehicle within the town, and the narrow shore road is not a place to stop or park casually. Use marked parking outside the central lanes and walk in.
Spring and autumn give quiet and clear light; summer mornings are best before the day-trip boats arrive from late morning. Summer brings heat, reflected sunlight and crowds; rain makes the stone slippery, and wind or storms can stop the island boats. Check sunrise and sunset times for the day you visit, as daylight varies through the season.
Carry water, sun protection, grip footwear, a light layer and small cash without guaranteeing cash-only payment — the polished stone and the upper lanes demand shoes with grip, and the heat and exposure of the waterfront are real in summer. Modest clothing is needed for any church interiors that may be open.
Central Perast is compact but not step-free. Stone paving, steps, steep upper lanes, the bell-tower stairs and boat boarding all reduce accessibility, and step-free access should not be assumed at any historic site, church, palace or boat. Check current access arrangements with individual sites and operators before visiting.
