ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Sombor’s ergele is one of the oldest continuously working stud farms in Europe — founded in 1779, its Lipizzaner lines go back to the Habsburg studs, and its carriage-driving school still trains champion teams. Harness racing (trke u kasu) is the town’s own sport: the local Konjički klub “Vojvođanin”, presided over by Branislav Jokić — the basketball star’s father — races its horses at the town hippodrome, and since 2023 the Serbian trotting derby, the generational race for four-year-olds, has been decided in Sombor. This is the half of Nikola Jokić’s life that the NBA cameras never see: he bought his first racehorse, Dream Catcher, as a teenager, spends his summers in the stables, and after his first MVP season in 2021 he came straight from the airport — and started shovelling manure.
