ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
The Sava arm beside Ada Ciganlija is the calmest water in the capital — no motorboats, flat as a lake, with the rowing course and kayak clubs that have trained Olympic medallists. Clubs rent sit-on-top kayaks and run guided sessions for beginners; the classic route hugs the island’s wild bank, herons and all. More ambitious paddlers launch from the Zemun quay for the Danube channel between Great War Island and the fortress — paddling directly beneath Kalemegdan’s walls as the sunset turns them copper. Sessions run from May to September, with sunset slots the local favourite.
