ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Mogren is the beach that makes a one-day Budva visit work: a sheltered cove of pebble and sand just south of the old town, reached by a short cliff path cut through the rock, close enough to the walls that you can wander the lanes in the morning and swim in the afternoon without moving. There are two small beaches — Mogren I, the larger and busier, and Mogren II, quieter and reached through a short tunnel through the rock — and the west-facing position means the water is calm and the beach holds the late sun. It is the closest good beach to the walled peninsula, which is why it fills first in summer, but it earns its place: backed by cliff, facing open water, with the old town walls visible along the path.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
Mogren has been Budva’s nearest bathing beach since the town grew into a resort in the 20th century, but the cove itself is a natural feature of the coast south of the peninsula, shaped by the cliff behind it and the west-facing exposure that keeps its water calm. The cliff path that gives access was cut through the rock to link the old town to the beach, passing the remains of the old Mogren Fortress above. In the resort era the beach acquired seasonal bars and loungers, but its basic character — a sheltered cove reached on foot, with a quieter second beach beyond a tunnel — is unchanged.
WHAT TO SEE
What to see here
Mogren I — the larger, busier first cove, with seasonal beach bars and sun loungers and the old town walls visible along the cliff path.
Mogren II — the quieter second cove, reached through a short tunnel cut through the rock at the end of the first beach.
The cliff path from the old town — a few minutes’ walk partly cut through the rock, passing the remains of Mogren Fortress above the beach.
The west-facing water — calm and clear in normal conditions, holding the late sun and making the beach a good evening swim spot.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters
Mogren is the beach that ties Budva’s two sides together — the walled old town and the Adriatic swim — in a single walkable day, and its west-facing cove makes it a fine place to end the day in the water. For a visitor it is the easiest way to combine heritage and coast without transport, provided the path and the beach are open and conditions allow.
