ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
A lakeside peninsula with an 9th-century pilgrimage church — the romantic heart of Wörthersee.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
Missionaries from Freising founded the church around 875 to christianise the Slavic principality of Carantania; the lake was even briefly named after its saints. Both churches burned in 1399 and were rebuilt in late Gothic style.
