Above the olive plain, on a ridge between the sea and the mountains, stand the walls of Sopot castle — a fortress whose story runs from Hellenistic watchpost through Byzantine stronghold to Ottoman garrison. The climb is a short hike from the Borsh road; the reward is the coast’s widest panorama: the whole gulf, the beach’s full seven kilometres, the olive sea of the plain and the mountain wall beyond.
