ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION

Zavidovići sits where the Krivaja river flows into the Bosna, and the confluence is the natural fact that gives the town its position and its character. The Krivaja reaches the Bosna on the floor of the wide valley, and the meeting of the two rivers — the larger Bosna and the clearer Krivaja — is the water feature around which the settlement grew. The confluence is reached on foot from the centre as part of the riverside walk, and it is the place to read the town as a river crossroads: the Bosna running north toward Doboj, the Krivaja coming down from the uplands to the south, and the town set at their meeting. A general river photograph is not a photograph of the exact confluence, so no image is set here; the sight is seen on the ground.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND

The story behind it

The confluence of the Krivaja and the Bosna is the natural reason Zavidovići exists where it does — a meeting of rivers that made the site a crossing and a gathering point in the valley. The Krivaja, which drains the uplands to the south including the Tajan area, was also the working artery of the timber economy that shaped the modern town, floating logs down to the Bosna and the wood-processing works at Zavidovići. The confluence is today a riverside feature visited on foot from the centre, the natural anchor of the town walk.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why it matters

The confluence is the geographical fact behind Zavidovići — the reason the town is here and the reason it became a river crossroads and a timber town. For a visitor it is the natural anchor of the riverside walk and the place where the town is read against its two rivers.
