ABOUT THE DESTINATION
Makarska is a resort town on a curved pebble bay beneath the sheer wall of the Biokovo mountain, the dramatic setting that makes it one of the most popular beaches on the Croatian coast. The old town sits on a small peninsula between two beaches, and the Biokovo Nature Park above it offers hiking, the Skywalk viewpoint and a sharp contrast between sea and peak.

HISTORY & CULTURE
The Story Behind the Place
Makarska grew as a small Venetian and then Habsburg coastal town beneath Biokovo, and its modern life is as the centre of the Makarska Riviera, a string of resort villages along the pebble coast. The Biokovo mountain above was protected as a nature park in 1981, and the Skywalk viewpoint opened in 2022.
