Čačak’s centre is older than its name: the Roman thermae (4th century) stand beside the church of the Ascension (12th century, the town’s founder Stracimir’s endowment), and the National Museum keeps the region’s Roman and medieval collections. The town is western Serbia’s energy — cafés, the university, the Morava airport (Lađevci) that now connects it.

The story behind it
The Roman settlement’s baths (the “Thermae” of the coins) mark the site’s antiquity; the 12th-century church of the Ascension — Stracimir’s endowment — began the town’s Christian story; the Ottoman-era town and the 19th-century growth made it the region’s administrative centre. The Morava airport (Lađevci, once military) opened to civil traffic as the West’s gateway.
