The Valley of the Kings drive
The Ibar road upstream — Žiča, Maglič and the fortresses to Studenica — Kraljevo’s own day out, from its gate.

History & Heritage
The royal town at the Ibar’s gate — named for the kings crowned at Žiča, base for the monasteries and the mountains.
Kraljevo takes its name from the kings (kraljevi) crowned at Žiča, its monastery 20 minutes uphill: the town grew as the royal valley’s service centre, at the gate where the Ibar leaves the mountains for the Morava plain. Today it is the practical base for the region’s great sights — Žiča and Studenica up the Valley of the Kings, Mokra Gora and the Šargan beyond the mountains — with a serious city heart: the Serbian Warriors monument, the St Sava park and the National Museum’s Čolak-Antić house.

HISTORY & CULTURE
The town grew at the Ibar’s gate below the coronation church — “Kraljevo” (the kings’ place) named in the 19th century for the Žiča crowning tradition; the medieval route to Studenica ran through it. The 19th century made it the district town; the 20th added the railway junction and the aviation works. The Serbian Warriors monument (the “srpski ratnici”, 1930s) in the city park honours the wars’ dead; the National Museum keeps the region’s story in the Čolak-Antić merchant house.
