ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
Cervinia’s ski area is the wide, sunny Italian half of the Matterhorn paradise: long, confident reds and blues rolling from the Theodul glacier down to the village, the Valtournenche sector beneath the south face, and — with the border crossing open — the run through to Zermatt, one of the great lift-linked days in skiing. The season runs longer than anywhere else in Italy: late October to early May in the main area, and June to early September on the twenty kilometres of summer glacier skiing at Plateau Rosà, where national teams train while hikers watch from the station terrace.
WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE
What you’ll experience
You ride the first lifts up through three countries’ worth of scenery, cruise the wide Ventina piste from 3,480 m to the valley, lunch on a terrace with the pyramid overhead, and — conditions permitting — cross into Switzerland for the Zermatt side. Beginners get Plan Maison’s gentle shelf; experts get the Ventina black and the off-piste of the Theodul. The Gravity Area snowpark and the long Indianpark lines keep snowboarders honest.
THE EXPERIENCE IN DETAIL
What it’s really like
HIGHLIGHTS
Moments worth savouring
Italy’s longest ski season — October to May, plus summer glacier skiing.
The run through to Zermatt — two countries, one descent (border permitting).
The Ventina piste — 12 km of continuous descent from the glacier to the treeline.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Good to know before you go
Day passes in the €60–70 range in high winter; summer glacier passes cheaper. The Zermatt link depends on snow and border operations — check daily. Altitude is real: pace yourself, hydrate, and watch the first-day wine.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters
This is the biggest lift-linked ski area in Europe — and the only place in Italy where you can ski in July.
