ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Rudnik (1,132 m) is the mountain that made Šumadija’s name: mined since the Romans (the silver of the medieval Serbian state), forested with beech, strung with ethno villages that keep the Šumadija table and the honey farms. The walks are gentle; the villages are the mountain’s life.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
Rudnik’s mines gave medieval Serbia its silver — the Saxon miners’ towns were the kingdom’s wealth; the Ottoman decline of the mines turned the mountain to forest and herding. The 20th century added the clean-air reputation; the ethno-village revival (2000s) brought the table and the rooms back.
