ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
A scenic drive is the way to see the village and landscape side of Lake Skadar — the stone villages, the Crmnica wine hills and the viewpoints above the Rijeka Crnojevića that the boat tour cannot reach. This experience connects selected public-road sections between Virpazar, Godinje, Rijeka Crnojevića and the Pavlova Strana viewpoint, threading the northern and western shore into a half-day or full-day route. It is not a single easy loop around the whole lake: the destinations are geographically dispersed, the roads are narrow, winding and locally steep, and travel times are longer than map distances suggest. The drive is best treated as a selective route between a few chosen stops rather than an attempt to cover everything — shorten it rather than rush it.

HIGHLIGHTS
Moments worth savouring
Virpazar and Besac Fortress — the gateway village and hilltop fortress at the start of the route.
Godinje and the Crmnica wine landscape — the stone village and the vineyard hills above the western shore.
Rijeka Crnojevića and Danilo’s Bridge — the historic riverside settlement and its double-arched bridge.
The Pavlova Strana viewpoint — the horseshoe bend of the Rijeka Crnojevića, conditional on safe parking and visibility.
The northern and western shore roads — narrow, winding and scenic, with travel times longer than map distances suggest.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Good to know before you go
The destinations are geographically dispersed and the connecting roads are narrow, winding and locally steep, so travel times are longer than map distances suggest — do not plan the route as a quick loop. No parking place, road access, viewpoint visibility, restaurant, winery or boat connection is guaranteed; check conditions locally and arrange any wine tasting or household visit in advance. Drivers must stay on public roads, use lawful parking, never follow racing lines and remain alcohol-free, especially in the Crmnica wine hills. The route is best shortened rather than rushed: pick a few stops and leave the rest for another day.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters
The scenic drive is the way to see the human and landscape side of Lake Skadar — the villages, the wine hills and the viewpoints that the boat tour cannot reach. For a visitor it is the natural complement to a boat trip, turning a water-based day into a fuller encounter with the Skadar shore. But it is a selective road route, not a loop of the whole lake, and its value depends on patient, defensive driving and on choosing a few stops rather than trying to cover everything.
