ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE

The southern shore of Pelješac, under the wine terraces, is a chain of pebble coves and clear channel water — and a kayak is the way to read it. The classic run launches from Trstenica, the sandy sweep east of Orebić, and follows the shore past rocky points and emptied coves toward the villages of the channel; swimmers without a paddle can do the same chain by road. The water is typically calm in the morning before the maestral, deep and clear over rock and pebble, with the vineyards falling to the sea the whole way.

WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE

What you’ll experience

You launch from Trstenica beach in the morning calm, paddle the shore east or west along the cove chain — each pebble bay a stop, the water clear enough to read the bottom at depth — and return before the afternoon wind builds. Swimmers and sunbathers can reach the same coves by the coastal side roads; Trstenica itself holds the peninsula’s best sandy entry, with pine shade and season bars.

THE EXPERIENCE IN DETAIL

What it’s really like

Kayaking and swimming the southern coves of Pelješac — Trstenica’s sandy beach, the pebble cove chain under the Dingač terraces and the calm channel water of the morning.

HIGHLIGHTS

Moments worth savouring

01

Trstenica — the peninsula’s best sandy beach, a short walk from Orebić.

02

The cove chain under the Dingač terraces, best by paddle.

03

Deep, clear channel water over pebble and rock.

04

Morning calm before the daily maestral — then the wind for the sailors.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Good to know before you go

Rental kayaks and SUPs exist at Orebić and the channel villages in season — verify availability locally. The maestral builds from late morning: paddle early, swim in the lee afterwards. The pebble and rock entries want water shoes; there is little shade on the water — sun protection is essential.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why it matters

The south shore is Pelješac’s swimming coast, and from a kayak the vineyard terraces read best — the peninsula’s two signatures, wine and water, in one morning.
