ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION

The Sinan Pasha mosque (1615) is the town’s silhouette: the great dome and the slim minaret stand directly over the Bistrica, framed by the stone bridge. Around it the old town keeps the cobbled lanes, the hammam, the craft shops and the riverside cafés — the most complete Ottoman quarter in the region.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND

The story behind it

Built 1615 by Sofi Sinan Pasha (the vizier of the Bizim family), the mosque’s interior keeps the 19th-century painted decoration; the stone for the platform is said to include the spolia of the older Serbian church at the site. The old town’s quarters grew around the river’s mills and bridges.
