ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
Trastevere is the medieval quarter on the west bank of the Tiber, a working-class district of cobblestone lanes, ivy-clad houses and the gilded church of Santa Maria in Trastevere, one of the oldest churches in Rome. Crossing the river into it at dusk is one of the simplest and most rewarding things to do in the city: the lanes fill with the evening passeggiata, the trattorias open their doors, and the church mosaics glow in the last light. The Janiculum Hill above offers the broadest panorama of Rome at sunset.
