ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Rtanj is the mountain that looks made: a perfect limestone pyramid (1,169 m) whose silhouette anchors the region’s horizon — the pyramidal shape (a truncated cone with the chapel on top) feeds the energy-lore, and the climb (2 hours from the village) is the region’s cult walk. Below it, the Bovan lake holds the Moravica’s water — the fishing and swimming spot of the valley.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
Rtanj’s chapel (St George, 1930s, on the summit ruins of an older church) sits where the medieval fortress was; the pyramid shape is the weathered limestone cone of the old reef. The energy-lore (pyramid power, the “chakra of the earth”) is modern — but the sunrise climb is ancient in feeling. Bovan lake (1978 dam) is the valley’s water and its leisure.
