ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION

Soko Grad hangs on the rock over the spa: the 14th-century fortress (“the falcon town”) whose walls climb the cliff and whose tower keeps the whole Moravica valley in one view. The 30-minute walk from town is the spa’s classic outing — the evening light through the gate is the region’s photograph.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND

The story behind it

Built in the 14th century (despot Stefan’s border era), Soko Grad guarded the Moravica valley; the Ottomans held it, abandoned it after the 19th-century wars. The fortress’s silhouette is Sokobanja’s emblem — the town grew beneath its cliff.
