ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Midžor is the mountain’s crown: the 2,169-m summit on the border ridge, the climb from Topli Do or the gondola-assisted walks from Babin zub — the ridge path runs the border with the whole Balkan range in view. Babin zub (the “grandmother’s tooth”, the crag above the ski centre) gives the winter slopes and the summer trailheads.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
The Balkan range gave the Balkans their name — the Old Mountain’s ridge was the border of empires (Roman, Ottoman) and is the Serbian-Bulgarian frontier today. The ski centre (2000s) put the gondola and the slopes under the crag; the summit keeps the shepherds’ and hajduks’ memory.
