ABOUT THE DESTINATION

Cres is the second-largest Adriatic island and one of its wildest — a long ridge of limestone mountain, deep bays and forests that shelters a rare colony of griffon vultures. The town of Cres is a quiet Venetian harbour of lanes and arcades, and the island is joined by a narrow bridge to Lošinj, its smaller, greener neighbour.

HISTORY & CULTURE

The Story Behind the Place

Cres was settled in antiquity and ruled by Venice from the 15th century, leaving the harbour town its arcaded lanes and loggia. The island has always been sparsely populated, and its remote northern cliffs have preserved the griffon vultures that now symbolise it.
