HISTORY & CULTURE
The Story Behind the Place
Pag was a salt-producing island under Venice, and the old town of Pag was laid out in the 15th century by the architect Juraj Dalmatinac as a planned Renaissance settlement when the original town silted up. Salt, sheep cheese and lace have been the island’s trades for centuries, and Zrće beach made it a party destination in the 2000s.
