ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Požega’s streets keep the 19th-century district-town plan; its museum keeps the region’s story — the market town, the wars, the railway. The Belgrade–Bar line (completed 1976) is the modern legend: the tunnels and viaducts of the “Veseli kućeri” hills are among the Balkans’ boldest engineering.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
The Ottoman-era market town became the 19th-century district centre; the railway era (the Beograd–Bar line’s construction from the 1950s) put the junction in the hills — the engineering that opened Montenegro to Belgrade. The raspberry farms (from the 1960s) made the region the fruit-export capital.
