ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
Visiting Liplje Monastery is the heritage experience of a Teslić trip that lies beyond the town. The monastery stands at the widest part of the narrow gorge through which the river Bistrica flows, a secluded Serbian Orthodox foundation whose documented history reaches back to 1576. A visit here is quiet and unhurried: the church, restored in the nineteenth century on older foundations and now dedicated to the Annunciation, the monastic buildings and the wooded gorge that holds them. For a visitor it is the place where the deeper history of the valley is read — a monastery burned in the Great Turkish War, restored by the local people and re-established in modern times.

HIGHLIGHTS
Moments worth savouring
The monastery church — the Raška-school church, restored 1867–1879, formerly St Nicholas and now the Annunciation.
The Bistrica gorge — the narrow wooded gorge at whose widest point the monastery stands.
The documented history — a site first recorded in 1576, burned in the Great Turkish War and re-established in 1965.
The seclusion and peace — the quiet of a working monastery in the valley, a contrast to the spa and the town.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Good to know before you go
Liplje stands in the Bistrica gorge, a drive from Teslić town centre; a car or arranged transport is the practical way to reach it. It is a working monastery — check locally for visiting arrangements, and expect a quiet, modest visit. Modest dress is expected (shoulders and knees covered). Allow an unhurried hour or two for the church, the gorge and the peace of the site. No opening hours or fees are stated here; confirm locally what is available on the day.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters
The Liplje visit is the experience that takes a Teslić trip back before the modern town — to the oldest documented spiritual site in the area and the layered history of a monastery renewed across four centuries.
