HISTORY & CULTURE
Trogir was a Greek and then Roman settlement that grew into a medieval commune under Venice, and its old town preserves a continuous sequence of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance buildings within its walls. The 13th-century cathedral portal by Master Radovan is one of the finest Romanesque works in Croatia, and the whole island old town was inscribed by UNESCO in 1997 as one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the Mediterranean.

NATURE & WILDLIFE
Trogir’s nature is the channel and Čiovo. The old town sits on an island in the narrow channel between the mainland and the island of Čiovo, and the Čiovo shore across the bridge holds the town’s swimming beaches and pine coves. The water in the channel is clear and sheltered, with the usual Adriatic fish and sea urchins on the rocks, and the pine shade of the Čiovo coves makes them the natural swim after a walk through the old town. Dolphins are occasionally seen in the wider channel toward Split.
PLAN YOUR VISIT
Trogir is 30 minutes from Split by bus or car, and sits right beside Split airport — about 10 minutes away. Direct buses run from Split, and the old town is a common first or last stop for visitors flying into Split.
The old town is car-free and walkable; park on the mainland and walk in. The Čiovo beaches are across the bridge, and Split is a 30-minute bus ride.
Half a day covers the old town, the cathedral and the fortress. A full day adds the Čiovo beaches.
May–June and September for quiet lanes; July and August for the coast and the beaches.
