ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
Tešnjar is the town’s soul: a cobbled street of 19th-century craftsmen’s houses (the Ottoman-era plan, the Balkan look) climbing the slope above the Kolubara. Restored through the 2010s, it is now galleries, cafés and the town’s evening walk — the quarter photographers come for.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
Tešnjar was Valjevo’s crafts quarter under the Ottomans and through the 19th century — saddlers, tinsmiths, coffeemakers; the street kept its plan and most of its houses. Decline in the late 20th century nearly took it; the restoration returned the quarter as the town’s cultural street.
