ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
The theatre is Butrint’s heart: a Greek auditorium carved into the hillside in the 2nd century BC, its seats and stage wall still standing among the trees. The surrounding walls carry inscriptions recording slaves freed in honour of Asclepius — evidence of the healing sanctuary that drew pilgrims across the ancient world and built the city’s early wealth. Excavated from metres of soil beginning in 1928, it remains the most atmospheric ruin on the Albanian coast.
