ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE

Beside the Vivari channel stand the brick walls of the Triconch Palace — Butrint’s grandest private house, a late-Roman villa expanded around 420 AD into a mansion with three great apses facing the water. Its story is the site’s in miniature: rising water levels flooded the new wing before it was finished, and the palace was abandoned to the lagoon — a 1,600-year-old lesson in the wetland that now protects the city as a park.
