ABOUT THIS ATTRACTION
The 13th-century royal fortress on the cone above the Ibar at Ušće — the “gate of the Ibar”, guarding the road between the Morava valley and Metohija. The walls climb the hill; the half-hour path from the river ends on the ramparts, with the whole rafting gorge running below.
HISTORY & BACKGROUND
The story behind it
Maglić was raised in the 13th century as a key stronghold of the Nemanjić state, commanding the Ibar corridor that linked the royal lands with Metohija and the mining towns. It stood garrisoned through the Ottoman conquest into the 17th century; the walls and towers remain unconserved but climbable, and the fortress has become the visual signature of the Ibar rafting run beneath it.
