A walk through the Tvrđa and along the Drava is the way to see old Osijek — the baroque grid of the fortress, the Holy Trinity square and the Church of St Michael, then the riverside promenade that runs beside the walls. The circuit is flat, short and full of the cafés and the restored façades that make the fortress quarter the city’s most pleasant part.

What you’ll experience

You walk into the Tvrđa through one of the gates, cross the Holy Trinity square, visit the Church of St Michael and the museums in the restored barracks, and continue out to the Drava promenade along the river. The walk can end at a river beach in summer or at a café in the fortress square in the evening.
