ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE
A day at Cape Kamenjak is Pula’s coast day — a slow drift from one rocky cove to the next along the protected headland, swimming and snorkelling in the clear water over the seagrass meadows. The coves are wild rather than manicured: rocks, pebbles and pine shade rather than sand, with a couple of seasonal beach bars and cliff-jumping spots at the southern end. Because the headland is protected, the water stays clean and the shoreline stays undeveloped.
WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE
What you’ll experience
You drive or cycle down the dirt track to one of the coves, set up on the rocks, and swim and snorkel in the clear water. The snorkelling is good over the seagrass and the rocks, with small fish and occasional sea urchins (bring shoes). The more adventurous head to the southern end for cliff-jumping, and the whole headland can be explored by bike along the dirt tracks. There are a couple of seasonal bars for food and drinks.

HIGHLIGHTS
Moments worth savouring
A string of wild rocky coves with clear, clean swimming water.
Snorkelling over seagrass meadows and along the rocky shore.
Cliff-jumping spots at the southern end of the cape.
Dinosaur footprints in the shoreline rock near the southern tip.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Good to know before you go
There is a vehicle entry fee in season and a car park at the southern end; in summer the coves fill up by late morning, so arrive early. The shore is rocky — bring sea shoes, sun protection and water. The beach bars are seasonal and basic. The headland is open, so pick a cove on the sheltered side for the wind of the day.
WHY IT MATTERS
Why it matters
Kamenjak is the best swimming within reach of Pula and the natural outdoor balance to a Roman-city day — the reason to stay a second day rather than treat Pula as a single monument stop.
