ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE

Ascending St Euphemia’s campanile is the one essential Rovinj activity — a narrow staircase up the 60-metre baroque tower to a viewing platform at the top, from which the whole old town, both harbours and the archipelago spread out below. The ascent is the image of Rovinj you see on every postcard, seen from above rather than from the shore.

WHAT YOU’LL EXPERIENCE

What you’ll experience

You enter the church and ascend the staircase inside the campanile — a series of wooden and stone steps narrowing toward the top — to emerge on the platform below the turning statue of St Euphemia. From there the pastel rooftops fall away on all sides to the sea, with the archipelago islands offshore and the Golden Cape park to the south. The ascent takes a few minutes; allow time at the top.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Good to know before you go

The staircase is narrow and steep, with low headroom in places; it is not suitable for very young children or anyone with mobility issues. The tower is open in daytime; check current opening times. In summer it is busiest in late morning — go early for the quiet and the light.

WHY IT MATTERS

Why it matters

The campanile is the one viewpoint that captures Rovinj whole, and the ascent is the single most rewarding thing to do in the town. For a visitor it turns the postcard view into a memory.
