Krka National Park is the natural day trip from Šibenik — a river national park of waterfalls, lakes and boardwalks along the Krka, which reaches the water at Šibenik itself. The most famous stretch, Skradinski Buk, is a series of broad waterfalls and travertine pools with boardwalks over the water, and the park also holds a medieval fortress and an island monastery. Unlike Plitvice, bathing is allowed in parts of Krka, which makes it a river-and-waterfalls day in one.

The story behind it

The Krka was protected as a national park in 1985, recognising the travertine waterfalls and the river ecosystem that runs from the karst interior to the water at Šibenik. The park includes the medieval fortress of Trošir and the Visovac island monastery, a Franciscan house on an islet in the river that has been a place of prayer since the 15th century. The park’s boardwalks and boat trips make it the most accessible of the Croatian waterfall parks.
